It is NOT our Fault


Assalamualaikum.


Nowadays, the issue of animal abuse on the rise. Every day, there will be issues involving either animal torture reported in the newspapers or that happened in front of my own eyes. 


This show is increasingly lost the humanity in themselves performer . Animals like cats often fall victim to the perpetrator of the act brutally tortured and killed without mercy. Where the loss of humane behavior ? What people are missing compassion so willing to commit such acts?

Examples of animal abuse mentioned shows this issue has been ongoing for a long time . This case does not have the attention it deserves because it is considered a common practice for some people . Animal cruelty committed by foreign nationals may be due to differences in religion and culture. However, it is not acceptable is when the Muslim community itself is doing the abuse. Where the loss of moral community should be based on the Quran and Sunnah ?

If this issue is discussed from the perspective of tasawwur Islam, Islamic principles in human relations with the environment also includes human relationships with animals. Therefore, those who commit torture of animals is of course aside from tasawwur aspects of Islam itself, they do not keep in contact with nature. Although the relationship with God should be cared for , but also contact with animals should not be underestimated. This is so because the animal is also a creature of Allah that as human beings, have to bow to Allah Man can not confine only love other people and ignore the relationship with other creatures that are on this earth. It is based on the saying of the Prophet that says:

"Love anyone on earth , you would have loved anyone who is in heaven."
 (Narrated by At-Tabarani and Al-Hakim )


Those who do cruelty to animals is certainly a character that is not centered on the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah . This is because good manners that follows the instructions of the Quran and Sunnah will develop and produce gestures that mold the moral system . According to Ibn Khaldun ( 1995), the ups and downs of a country and civilization , depends on how the people are holding on to high values ​​. This view is supported by the Arab poet Ahmad Shauqi who said :

" Indeed, such a society will be there as long as no morals. If there are no morals , society will be lost. "(Quoted from Siti Norlina , et al. , 2004 )

This view shows the importance of good manners for the current scenario of the Muslim community at the present time indicates worsening problem of moral decadence . In the context of the issue of animal abuse , those who act brutally mistreat animals can also be said to be immoral . This is because the teachings of Islam that Muslims should practice good posture even to animals. Therefore, people should be of good character with all God 's creatures because moral values ​​are high , for the Prophet Muhammad , which means:

"There is nothing heavier weight than moral character." 
 (Narrated by At- Tirmidhi no. 2002 , Abu Dawud no. 4799 )

In discussing the relationship between human and animal , if measured in terms of Islamic epistemology , there are several manners to animals which stems from the teachings of Islam . Animals in Islam is based on sources of Islamic knowledge of the Quran and Hadith. Animals also are creatures of Allah and with men of God make the animals as God's Word says:

" And none of the animals in the earth nor a bird flying with two wings but they are nations like you, none of which we forget in the Book , then to his god they were collected . "
 ( Al - An'am , 6 : 38 )

Some of the animals according to Islamic Manners is the welfare of animals by providing food and water when they are hungry and thirsty . There is a hadith which states a great reward for those who take care of animals. Some of these are as narrated by Abu Huraira that the Prophet said in a hadith :

" When a dog turn around a well and almost died of thirst , a prostitute from the tribe of the children of Israel saw it. Then he removed his shoe and gave the dog to drink with it. So forgive him for what he has done . "
 ( Sahih al -Bukhari , no. Hadith 3427 )

Thus, the act of torturing animals like the example mentioned earlier is an action that is not based on Islamic epistemology . Islam commands its followers to care for the welfare of animals. This is not only limited to only take care of a pet cat , even Muslims organized kindness to all animals. In this case , the dog and the pig is no exception even though these animals were in the stool Mughallazoh ( hard ) , they are also creatures of Allah.


Abdul Shukor Abdul Hayei in his book that "Islam and Human Concerns in 1001 " people should be responsible for the welfare of animals , especially those under its control . If the animal is a pet , give him to eat and drink enough , look after the interests of his life with great responsibility. If the animal is a danger to human security , it shall be killed before they kill them, but to be orderly and respectful.

However, human beings can not arbitrarily punish let alone killing animals for no reason. In this case , Islam allows Muslims to kill animals that can be dangerous to them. If someone in tasawwur and Islamic epistemology, action tortures animals certainly do not occur among Muslims nowadays. While most people outside the country who often acts of animal cruelty , Muslims should not be silent. The smallest action can be done by Muslims are praying for the well being of all God's creatures on this earth .

Thus, the relationship between human and animal also be important because every time something is created by Allah SWT is for the convenience of the people and the responsibility of the people to exploit it by keeping his position as a god . As believers , one should protect , love , and care for animal welfare because not enough just keeping in contact with God and relationship with humans but neglected relationship with nature.
